Good morning. Things have been busy, and will now be slowing down. Starting my first week of a leave of abescence from work until either school goes back or things open up. Which ever comes first. Have an appointment with the pediatrician this morning via video call. Hopefully we will start getting some answers. The Squire is getting better though. Starting to ask questions and communicate better then he has. Definitely not at his appropriate age level, but a far cry from before.

Reply to PaladinPhil in 1: That is good news on the Squire. Every step forward counts. For folks who pray, if you haven't started praying for this country, it is beyond time to start doing so. I think what we've seen this past week is just the beginning of the troubles. We live in the country, so we haven't seen much, but even our town has seen marches and a few folks doing damage to property. What's funny is, the local university--which still isn't letting people work on campus yet and was starting to let people back--had to extend their shutdown another week because of property damage. And yet, these folks are among the most vocal supports of Black Lives Matter.

Good to see you'll be getting a break; and good news in terms of Squire's progress. (The Squire's Progress... sounds like some sort of tale of chivalry of old...)

Related: I had to chuckle at this moment with Little OR yesterday. We were out for a walk, and went by a house where a woman and her kindergarten-age daughter were out on the lawn, evidently having just finished painting BLACK LIVES MATTER on the sidewalk. I resisted the urge to say, "wrong audience, if you really care about that message, try painting it on sidewalk over in Anacostia"; instead Little OR walked up the sidewalk, reading out the message. The lady cooed at him, ooh, what good reading! Little OR said, "Black lives matter, hey, I saw that in a commercial!". She said, oh, how nice, and what did you think of it? His answer: "It was... annoying." The look on her face was priceless.

You know, it occurs to me: if I wanted to get involved in local politics here in Washington DC, no matter how much I got into it, how well I did, there’s an unwritten rule that I could never be mayor of the city, because I have the wrong skin color. So tell me again about “white privilege“?

You are doubly privileged because you are white and male, and only black females (or those with additional tags) can do anything now. You know, that whole "lived experience" stuff.

Okay I'm in with protesting now...

NC speedway attracts thousands after calling gathering a ‘protest’ ELON, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina speedway drew a crowd of more than 2,000 spectators in defiance of the state’s coronavirus restrictions after declaring the race a “protest.” The governor’s office had warned Ace Speedway in Elon that a crowd of more than 25 would violate the state’s Phase 2 coronavirus restrictions. But news outlets report that more than 2,000 attended a race Saturday night. A sign from management outside the speedway said, “This Event is held in Peaceful Protest of Injustice and Inequality Everywhere.” I think more protests are in order, in places of worship, at my barber, the gym....

Right, day chores are mostly done. Video/call went well with the pediatrician. We are getting an in office appointment soon for a full diagnosis. Doctor thinks that the Squire is definitely on the autism spectrum. How bad, not sure at this moment. This will help a lot in the future. We went to the bank to finalize a debt consolidation loan and get the mortgage renewed. Going to make things a lot easier there on that front. As well, I and the wife assembled a swing set/ slide for him to play with out side. He seemed to enjoy it before going inside to watch t.v.. Not going to force that issue for the moment. I need a drink, it's been a busy day and it's a great day for sitting outside on the patio furniture enjoying it.

I have just learned that my brother attended a protest in DC. I don't remember what his sign said, but at least it wasn't too obnoxious. Nonetheless, I am disappointed.

Yesterday I commented on nationalizing police agency. Democrats Unveil Legislation to Bring Sweeping Changes to Law Enforcement in America“We just announced the first ever comprehensive police accountability and reform bill to: Create a national standard for use of force – Expand pattern and practice investigations into police departments – Increase independent investigations into police misconduct.”First no Constitutional authority for this. There are national standards for training and accreditation, but they are voluntary. Lastly I don't trust the (D) any farther than I could throw them.

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 16: My daughter attended a protest in Brooklyn, without a sign AFAIK. To her credit, she has educated herself on the issues, and we can have a friendly conversation about it. I'm proud of her for being able to make a rational argument without resorting to emotional blackmail.

Reply to doppelganglander in 19: You are very fortunate. My brother is a wonderful guy in practically every way, but a few years ago, when BLM was acting up over something or other, the black assistant superintendent or assistant principal (I can't remember his Official Title) at our old high school held a BLM meeting/rally, from which whites were specifically excluded. I found it shocking that a public employee would use a public building for this purpose, and not be fired summarily, and shared that shock with my siblings and a few family friends still in the old neighborhood; I pointed out that, back when we attended the school, the notion of excluding people from a public building on a racial basis would never have been countenanced. He responded that, well, maaaybe whites should have been permitted to attend---on the grounds that it could have been a "teachable moment" for them. I said that that had nothing to do with it; that permitting the racist exclusion of people was in itself unconscionable. We left it there.

In #20 buzzsawmonkey said: I said that that had nothing to do with it; that permitting the racist exclusion of people was in itself unconscionable. I suspect he couldn't respond because the nature of the question left him puzzled. "Racial exclusion" isn't what they're thinking about. Based on what we've seen over the past several months, it has become clear that liberals desperately want to be subjects, not citizens. They want to obey authority -- ANY authority. You have to give them this -- they're not picky. They'll isolate and wear masks in the cars with wild abandon; the next minute they've forgotten everything about social distancing and are out there with the crowd gleefully licking the boots of any random black man they encounter. At first I thought it was merely moral vanity. And that is a very large part of it. But the level of submission, the willingness to throw dignity and liberty out the window and permit themselves to be humiliated and degraded is astonishing. A few years ago it was only the dim PETA girls wrapped in cellophane out in the sun pretending to be oppressed pieces of meat. Now we are all expected to perform proskynesis to any person of color who comes along. The hunger to be degraded, subjected, ruled is palpable.

Reply to lucius septimius in 21: It makes more sense when you view it as a religion. Think about the numerous passages in which Paul evokes slavery as the condition of sin, while freedom through faith in Christ makes one a slave to Him. I googled - in the NIV, there are four: Romans 7:25, 1 Corinthians 7:22, Galatians 2:4, and Ephesians 6:6. But as you and others have pointed out, it's religion with all of the guilt and none of the redemption. You can never be woke enough. The only way to be safe is to give up your will completely and think and act according to whatever the mob decrees. And as we know, this is a generation* obsessed with safety. Being cast into outer darkness where people think for themselves and ravening wolves roam is terrifying to them. *Generation in the sense of everyone currently living, not specifically millennials, though of course they're the most fearful.
