The Professional Goalpost Movers, i.e., NPR, were beating the drums about the virus making a comeback in those areas that are opening up. Not virus deaths, you understand---merely a headcount of the number of people in these areas who supposedly have it, which is merely a function of a greater number of tests and (possibly-accurate) positive test results. But if there is not a spike in deaths, that "number of infected" is, if not utterly meaningless, merely an indication of how much less deadly than projected the virus is.

I don't know how many people nowadays are familiar with the cantata below, Ballad for Americans. I first heard it in "Music Appreciation Class" in elementary school.
It is an interesting piece: it was issued on two discs in 1940. At least one of the authors, Earl Robinson, was a communist---as was Paul Robeson, the lead voice---but this piece is overwhelmingly patriotic, which shows what a devolution our domestic communists have undergone. You can hear some communist elements in the piece, certainly, but it still remains pro-American, pro-melting pot, and optimistic, even though the Depression was still hanging on when it was made.
The concluding section is particularly interesting, in that it does not shy from acknowledging American flaws, but proudly proclaims that we as a nation overcome them: "Out of the cheating, out of the shouting, out of the murders and lynchings, out of the windbags, the patriotic spouting, out of the carpetbag and the brass spittoon, it [liberty] will come again..."
And also: "Our country's strong, our country's young, and the greatest songs are still unsung..." Think of this as an aural equivalent of the WPA murals---also, in most cases, done by far-Leftists---which were, nonetheless, proudly pro-American, and which are now being attacked, defaced, and in some cases removed from the buildings they have graced for 80+ years by the degenerate Leftist barbarians of today.
I urge you to listen to the work below (it's about 10 minutes), whether to make a first acquaintance with it or to re-acquaint yourself with it, and, whether or not you agree with it in all aspects (I don't), to consider it as part of the march of American history and its complex interactions.

It was very obvious when the narrative shifted at the start of April; they made a point of printing out cumulative cases in the data, as opposed to pushing daily numbers. You had to start digging to find the daily numbers. They also made a point of *not* showing the number of recovered cases. In my workplace, they are still operating as if we're at the beginning of this pandemic, rather than near the end. They are pretty much changing all processes and protocols to reflect the requirement for masks, 6 foot distancing in everything, etc. etc. It's mindnumbingly ridiculous forcing folks to do this.

Reply to vxbush in 13: The drumbeat, as buzz says, is that somehow just getting the coronavirus is a categorical evil, as opposed to having any cold, flu, or pneumonia. I don't doubt that there can be issues after you recover from the virus--the lack of smell or taste would be annoying--but the reaction to this is so unhinged considering that over 97% of folks will recover from this.
