Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 5: Many songs and other media of the day decried hypocrisy - but took the wrong lesson. The lesson of the 60's and 70's was that the behavior was fine, it was the hypocrisy that was wrong, instead of that both hypocrisy and bad behavior were wrong. And here we are, where anything goes (except being religious (Muslims OK, even if they blow stuff up), being Jewish, supporting Israel, supporting law and order...)

Being inept as I am in linking things here, I'm grateful you know what to cautiously avoid.

OK, I’m happy to report that I did not over cook my steak on the grill, as I had feared. Having a late dinner up on the rooftop right now. Full moon, beautiful evening. Thunderstorms off in the distance displaying some pretty cool lightning.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 12: I grilled a filet -- got them cheap at H-Mart -- and had a wedge salad with amazing blue cheese and a red from Chinon. No moon here, but when I went out for a cigar one of the frogs came up and kept me company. I like my frogs.

Reply to lucius septimius in 13: Had a frozen pizza earlier (wife needs gluten free; I don't) Tomato, basil and feta. (she had 4 cheese) Someday, I'll have anchovy pizza again. Meat pizzas are not kosher (unless the cheese is dairy-free and the meat is not pork) Jukebox No anchovies? I spell my name "Danger" (NOT the jukebox)

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 14: BTW, J. Giles moved to Groton, Ma a few years ago, and died there. The town has the most Bernie signs I have ever seen, and I cannot afford to live there.

I believe stuff like that can be ordered, if you know what to order. There's a veggie "kielbasa" that is kosher and is absolutely superb in omelettes/scrambled eggs.

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 24: There is a lot that can be ordered, but if it is perishable the shipping charges get very large.

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 24: American Kosher used to be on Blue Hill Ave, Mattapan. They would let my father buy there, even though they had gone wholesale long ago. And the Morrison and Schiff Beef Rye (kosher bacon, essentially) Can't get it now.

So I just finished watching “Mr. Jones“ on Amazon prime, and I highly recommend it.

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 29: affirmative. It is very well done, and I am impressed at how it does not condescend to its audience. Indeed, it assumes that the audience knows the background of the story, to an extent that I find quite astonishing in this day and age.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 30: It's an incredible film. My daughter-in-law is Ukrainian and her grandparents must have been children during the Holodomor. We've never talked too much about it for obvious reasons.
