Reply to lucius septimius in 1: We've been lucky, but a close one did fry the Invisible Fence system. Needed a new transmitter.

During Monday's severe weather storm a power grid substation was damaged. Many thousands are still w/o power. Saturday afternoon is the estimated time when for all power will be returned. Browning tree branches/limbs are piled along many a roadway still.

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 3: I keep hoping the giant oak tree in front of my house would get hit and crush my car. It has a bunch of body damage because I'm a terrible driver, but I can't afford a new one.

Reply to midwestgak in 4: Our worst power outage was a November iirc ice storm. Took 4 days to get power back. Generally 4 hours otherwise

His daughter got into a wreck in it (no one was injured) which totaled the vehicle. The daughter was a bit panicky and afraid of her dad's reaction. He was so happy to be rid of that lemon.

He's long gone now, but did bite a fedex man who came in despite the Beware of the Dog signs. Years of overpriced insurance after that, even though there was no claim. (Metropolitan, Snoopy is NOT a good symbol for you!)

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 10: This one is alive and well. I like the fact that the shade keeps the western side of the house cool, but it also prevents me from growing anything in the front yard except hellebores and hostas. The roots probably run under my house, too.

Reply to midwestgak in 14: And there was a South Park episode where illegals are trying to get back into Mexico: "I wanted Obama to send the illegals back, but not by making this country so shitty they go back on their own"

Missed that episode, but a darn good point.
