Reply to PaladinPhil in 3: Thanks, given this is the most complicated website I've done, and I really don't have much time to work on it. And I forgot a lot between the time I first set it up and when we actually needed it.

Reply to @PBJ3 in 6: Right now, with the self-register, I'll see if she registers first. The next two things to fix are reset password and the ability to complete the registration later, for those who didn't fill in the second screen. Reset password is partially done. It generates the token, but I need a web page that can accept the reset password request.

Not to plug Dashiell Hammett more than necessary, but it's interesting to see how The Glass Key, which details dirty local machine politics from the inside, reminds one of the current impeachment hoo-ha the Democrats are mounting over Trump. In that book, there's a tough election coming, and the son of a Senator is found dead on the street. The opposition does its best to make everyone think that the political boss has murdered him, "because they think it's good politics to make people think that." The opposition paper publishes a lot of innuendo to further that belief (remind anyone of "fake news?"); the Senator's daughter, who the political boss is in love with, is certain the boss did kill her brother, but the boss's friend and right-hand man says to her, "You don't hate him because you think he killed your brother. You think he killed your brother because you hate him." The parallels are by no means exact, but there's a lot of psychological similarity between today's Washington shenanigans and some of the action in The Glass Key. Unfortunately for Trump, I don't think he has a "Ned Beaumont" to run interference for him the way the boss Paul Madvig does in the book.

Why do they call it a debate? I thought a debate was opposing sides defending their positions. They all appear to be on the same side, the one opposing America!

They are debating how fast to bring socialism. Marx: Religion is the opiate of the masses Kosh: Socialism is the fentanyl of the masses (A synthetic that kills large numbers of its adherents)

I, for one, refuse to watch any Democratic debate that does not include Ms. She-a Diamond.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 12: Buzz might be right Link Michelle Obama seems like an almost ideal candidate to gain broad
support among Democrats. In December 2018, Gallup named her America’s
“most popular woman.” On top of this, former President Barack Obama is
still immensely popular with Democratic voters. Michelle Obama could capitalize on the support of the well-known
coalition of voters who energetically elected her husband to two terms.
The former first lady is also relatively scandal-free, while candidates
like Biden and Warren are struggling to overcome political baggage.
(Ukraine for him, Cherokee heritage for her.)
Although Michelle Obama has ruled out running for president, Democratic front-runners should still worry.
