I hope you will enjoy the smoky flavor of our 2020 Napa Valley wine.

The fires are still out of control, smoky as heck here this evening. A fine ash has began to settle on the covered brick patio. I have a Thirst!

Teenagers.

Yesterday I bought a ice cream novelty pak at Costco, like 3 dozen bars, sandwiches etc...

Gone! All gone.

Kosh:  Re the article you posted in the day thread, two things: first, I wish that today's writers on Jewish issues would ditch the word "antisemitism," which was invented by Jew-haters to make their hate sound "scientific" and parlor-acceptable, and call it the Jew-hate that it is.

Second, the article, for me, points up the fact that young Jews are not taught Jewish history.  The Jewish history that runs through Western civilization is not taught in Western Civ classes (where that is even taught any more), and, worse, is not taught to young Jewish kids as part of their Hebrew School curriculum.  The result is that these kids show up in college, away from home, with no idea of the history of Jews over the last 2500 or so years.  This leaves them wholly mentally vulnerable to the Leftist garbage that is ladled into them on campus.

Very good points. And note I try to say Jew-Hatred. I agree that the raw, clear terminology is needed.

The problem is, all but Orthodox education has succumbed to the "Long March" the article talks about- especially "Reform Judaism"

I went to Hebrew school long enough ago I learned about Israel and Jew-hatred.

(And I note how much the neighborhood of the old shul changed - a couple of months ago there was a shooting on the street.)

Another point. One day, our Hebrew School teacher was sick, so her husband explained Christianity to us, and how it differs from Judaism. Protected me from the Messianic "Jews", because I know about the Jewish concept of Moshiach and the differences (at least enough of them) between that and the Christian concept. For example, the Jewish messiah gets it right the first time - he doesn't need a "second coming".

Orthodox Jews, sadly, do not give a damn about the last two thousand years plus of Jewish history unless there's a rabbi involved.  They do not teach about the Cossack massacres of the 1600s unless they talk about the Baal Shem Tov; they do not discuss the Jewish role in European and international commerce (e.g., the Jews opening up the Silk Road); they do not discuss the Napoleonic Emancipation, and the problems/issues it created; etc., etc.    If it's secular history, they don't give a damn.

Yet they do a better job than the "Conservative" and "Reform", where it is all Holocaust and Tikkun Olam.

I went to a Modern Orthodox shul and Hebrew school

I remember sitting on the steps during Yizkor, and later walking down Blue Hill Ave during the High Holy Days when it was wall-to-wall Jews

Article about "Jew Hill Ave"

Leonard Nimoy's father had his barbershop there. American Kosher - even when it was wholesale only, they'd sell to my father, possibly the last Jew in the area.

"Better," yes---still nowhere near good enough.

I was just over at "The New Americanist"---a spinoff site from WZ---which is basically Jew-friendly, but one of the regulars there used the dismissive "Ashkenaz" pejorative which is beloved of many neo-Nazi wannabees, who like to claim that European/Eastern European Jews are somehow "not legitimate" because they're "not truly Jewish."  It's the white-identarian version of Black Israelitism.

I tried to enlighten him somewhat---he's basically a decent guy, and, I presumed, did not know what the history was behind the term and its use.  I think it went well, but only time will tell.

Oy, vey. Ashkenazic, Sephardic, Mizrahi, and more - we are all Jews and hated.

Interesting article.  It sort of reminds me of what happened to the West Side Jewish neighborhood of Lawndale in Chicago.

BTW, many years ago, when my brother was living in one of the Boston suburbs---I forget which one---he and his girlfriend, and I and my girlfriend, were out driving somewhere from point A to point B, and we got "buzzed" by a car full of teens.  My brother thought they wanted directions, or something, so rolled down his window---I, having a, shall we say, more urban experience, told him to ignore them and keep on driving.  He ignored my advice, and when the car drew abreast of us the (white) teens in the car started screaming a series of anti-Jewish epithets.
