Ask Auntie Kamala for a bailout? Cuomo, today, when shutting down indoor dining or bar-going, said that the federal government must bail out these business owners.

I'm sure Harris will give them aid if they agree to things like $15 minimum wage, unionization, etc. And if they don't, there will be pressure to deny bankruptcy or have the IRS go after them, because they're acting deplorably or something.

Buzz, from Friday's thread:
In #25 buzzsawmonkey said: Regarding Kosh's #16, I'd note that a friend of mine who's a journalist in Israel (for a relatively left-leaning paper) dismisses BDS on the grounds that their feeble boycotts "have not hurt Israel economically." I've tried to tell him that the point is not to actually be effective in hurting Israel economically directly, but to delegitimize Israel in the Western nations---and in that, they are, if not succeeding, making progress. Why some people continue to refuse to understand that the stated objective differs from the genuine objective is beyond me. The BDS movement has clearly stated its objective is the destruction of Israel. The news media just ignores it. The article I linked to (repeated here) states that. While speaking to Time, Barghouti dissembles, his words open to the interpretation that if Israel only rids itself of its purported racism, identity-driven privilege and exclusion, Israel may be acceptable. Elsewhere, though, he is more upfront about his desire to eliminate the state of Israel, its very existence an inherent affront, as he sees it. Indeed, on another platform, he was very straightforward: “A Jewish state in Palestine, in any shape or form, cannot but contravene the basic rights of the land’s indigenous Palestinian population…definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No Palestinian – rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian—will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
Barghouti’s BDS colleague, Asad Abu Khalil, of Cal State University concurred: “That [the real aim of BDS is to bring down the Jewish state] should be stated as an unambiguous goal. There should not be any equivocation on the subject. Justice and freedom for the Palestinians are incompatible with the existence of the state of Israel.”

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 3: Lots of people say what their objectives are, and lots of other people disregard them when they do. Insofar as BDS has not, to date, materially harmed Israel, a great many people have spent much time scoffing at the possibility that BDS could possibly do damage. They were---are---basically the same as the two Little Pigs who built their houses of straw and sticks respectively, singing "Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?"; unable to comprehend that merely because what began as a ragtag and bobtail initiative was initially ineffective did not mean it could become so.

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 4: And I propose some of the effort to oppose BDS has prevented it from causing that much economic harm to Israel. It has, however, put at least 500 Palestinians out of work. SodaStream moved a plant to the Negev because of it, putting the 500 Palestinians who worked at their former plant out of work. But BDS does not care; the goal is to end Israel, and if a few hundred Palestinians lose their livelihood, or even their lives, it was for the cause.

Buzzsawmonkey: it occurs to me that you and Mark Steyn would be a formidable team teaching a course on something like “American popular culture and popular music, 1900 to 1970“ or something along those lines. You would take approximately the first half, he would take the second. And at least in theory, the person who could facilitate that introduction would be Laura Rosa Cohen, a.k.a. writermom. Just thinking out loud here.
