We're more likely to get into a war with Biden president than with Trump. Trump was unpredictable enough that no one was going to push him.

Just finished a step by step set of directions for adding a 3D model into our eCAD tool. The company's documentation is terrible, so it is easier to do my own instructions for engineers. I've had several discussion with the vendor's FAEs on the matter of documentation.

Reply to JCM in 11: Doesn't it suck to be tied into one vendor? Maybe when I retire we can find people to write an open source solution. Even if it isn't as good as the proprietary one, it will force them to be better. Why do I think the software you are using comes from a French company?

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 12: Siemen's Mentor Expedition, they just dropped the Mentor part. It's a conglomeration of tools purchased and "integrated" over time. It has two things going for it for our needs it can handle the size and scope of our projects, and it is the only tool in the sector that allows concurrent design by multiple designers.

In #13 JCM said: Siemen's Mentor Expedition, they just dropped the Mentor part. It is German - you vill use it and you vill like it. Unfortunately, the problems you give are the kind of problems open source does not handle well

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 14: eCAD tools are far too complex and narrow of a market for open source to work. There are 3 big players, Siemens, Cadence, and Altium. And then a bunch of "light" programs. Siemens has NX a mechanical CAD tool and a Product Lifecycle Management tool, TeamCenter which are are integrated, something other tools lack, you can use other tools with them but they lack the integrations. For a project like ours where we need to be able to track the smallest component in the entire project, that becomes a big factor.
