Ramadan is starting tonight! Time for caroling!

It's the most bloodthirsty time of the year!
While devout Muslims fast they'll send bombers to blast any infidels near
It's the most bloodthirsty time of the year!

Every year at a different time it befalls
With a calendar that's lunar which they know the kuffar won't follow at all
Each year at a different time it befalls

They'll all fast through the daytime
But at nightfall the gay time
Starts with feasting that lasts through the night
And if they should choose to fix
Up some jihadi tricks
The Koran tells them that it's all right

It's the most bloodthirsty time of the year
Flying limbs and beheadings infidels are dreading
And the jihadis savor that fear
It's the most bloodthirsty time of the year

They'll all fast through the daytime
But at nightfall the gay time
Starts with feasting that lasts through the night
And if they should choose to fix
Up some jihadi tricks
The Koran tells them that it's all right

It's the most bloodthirsty time of the year
Flying limbs and beheadings infidels are dreading
And the jihadis savor that fear
It's the most bloodthirsty time
Yes, the most bloodthirsty time
Oh, the most bloodthirsty time
Of the year!

Biden is now withholding $150 million in aid from Ukraine as tensions with Russia grow. I mentioned this a couple weeks ago. He wants to pressure Ukraine to drop all criminal investigations into him and his son, Hunter. Where’s the media on this extortion attempt?

Hard to speak when your lips are stuck to Biden's ass.

Gosh, it seems it comes earlier every year...

So tomorrow is my second Pfizer jab.  I really hope this thing does not knock me on my ass. I cannot afford it this week.

Most lunar calendars are lunisolar - they have a form of leap year to keep in sync with the solar year. The Hebrew and Chinese calendars do this.

The reason is, the calendar needs to keep synchronized with agricultural seasons.

Muslims don't have agricultural festivals, and largely leave agriculture to others. (Well, it is hard to farm a desert)

Thus, the Islamic calendar is purely lunar and makes no attempt to keep synchronized with the solar calendar.

Lunar month is 28 days, which does not divide evenly in the 365.24 (approximate) solar year.

The current Hebrew calendar will stay synchronized with the solar year for longer than the Gregorian calendar we now use.

Yes, I know.  It... was... a.. . joke.   (Not an original one, Mark Steyn has used it for years.)

So it seems the Settled Science is that one should not take acetaminophen or ibuprofen before getiting the Covid jab, as it may, perhaps, maybe lead to a somewhat diminshed immune response to the jab itself.  Comments?

My wife got that instruction (Pfizer), I was told that it would be fine afterwards (Moderna)

Sometimes I don't think they know what they are doing

But since I don't get to teach astronomy any more, I take any chance I can to do so!

YMMV, of course, but I had the second Pfizer shot a week ago and I just had minor soreness in my arm for a day or two. Shingrix is much worse - I have to get the second shot next month and I'm dreading it.

I'm sorry Alice, I had a phone call and didn't get back to the blog until now.  I spoke with our daughter for quite awhile this morning and she seems fine.  She sees her primary doctor tomorrow and UCLA is going to help her get an appointment with one of their specialists.  I'm still worried but last night I was a wreck.  Thanks so much for asking.

Keep Ma Sands in your thoughts and prayers.  There was trouble in Minneapolis after the officer involved shooting last night and she is worried about what might happen tonight.  There is a curfew as of 7:00 PM but protesters are violating the curfew.

I hope my Pfizer Coivd-19 experience follows yours.  I had little reaction to the first shot... but it seems (from what I hear/read) that doesn't say much about what the second mightt do.

OTOH, I didn't have any big problems after either of the two Shingrix jabs; just some sorteness in arm near the injection site, but no big deal.

My husband had no reaction to the second Pfizer shot.

I hope so, too. I only had a local reaction to Shingrix - swelling, soreness, and bruising - but I understand the second one is often worse. I'd still rather have a bad reaction to a vaccine than actual shingles.

I’d say for me it was the inverse, the first Shingrix shot was a bit more bothersome than the second.  But YMMV FWIW, PBUH, and all that...

And it looks like it’s going to be another fun night in Minneapolis. And perhaps elsewhere. And Joe Biden is completely on board with that, apparently.

Wife had some annoying reactions to Pfizer (soreness made worse everywhere, swollen lymph nodes).

I had Moderna, and only soreness in the arm for a day.

I think it is more the individual, although there is some thought that if you had COVID the reaction is worse
