"Sinister" means "left," of course---but the "bar sinister" on a medieval shield indicated that one was the bastard of a noble house.

Makes me wonder whether "sinister" is, in fact, derived from "sin" + "sister"---a sort of nod to the randy behavior of the nobility back in the day.

Sinister is from the Latin, as was drilled into me for 5 years.

And every Latin teacher I had was like the Centurion in this scene. Even those who had started to train for the priesthood.

Just heard from a friend I hadn't talked to since last summer. She got married, which is great news. He seems like a really good guy.
