Quiet night around here. I gave my notice at work today - my last day is Friday. I'm really looking forward to having a week off before I start the new job.

Reply to doppelganglander in 1: Great. Good luck in your new position. The last time I voluntarily changed jobs was 1999

In #5 Kosh's Shadow said: The last time I voluntarily changed jobs was 1999 I’ve got a beat. The last time I changed jobs, at all, was 1997. I mean, not counting “changed jobs“ by promotion within the same employer.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 6: Except since 1999 I have HAD to change jobs at least 8 times. Maybe more but I don't want to look it up

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 7: Oh, in my times of unemployment I got frequent interviews, that I think were meant as "We interviewed this white american, but he couldn't do it, so we hired this cheap Indian or Chinese" Seriously, to have my code test rejected because I didn't format the comments (that explain the code to people) well enough says something. They interviewed me because they figured Python was not my main language, and I would not do a good job on it, and then they had to find some nits to pic, because my code passed all their tests, including efficiency. Do you know what happens when you are out of work 5 out of 20 years? Nothing good.

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 8: I note I was also interviewed by Facebook - and I don't use it. They had several positions, most of which were quite related to work I had done (Networking, content delivery network, video) I think they interviewed me so they could reject me and hire ah H1-B person. And they are not alone. But where I work, you have to be a US citizen, so they give a coding test that is hard - only around 1/3 of the people they give it to pass. I did, obviously.

I was with the same company, as an employee and a contractor, for nearly 14 years. I thought I'd be a contractor for the rest of my career, which is common in my field and I don't mind it. I wasn't even looking when I got a call from a recruiter. I'm looking forward to getting paid for Labor Day.
