Discussion question for the gun people here: have you ever even seen, much less fired, a working Luger pistol?

Me, I have not. I’ve never seen one outside of a museum.

I handled one, not fired. Friend of mine's father was a Wehrmacht and US Army vet.

He was drafted at like 15 right at the end of the war by the Wehrmacht, his job was to scout to make sure it was safe for the few remaining tanks. His first sight of Americans was infantry advancing behind a tank.... he decided that made a lot more sense and surrendered as soon as he could. Because he was so young US troops "adopted" him and told the US troops the lay of the land, what he knew and ran camp errands for them.

The troops sponsored him for immigration to the US after the war. He ended up volunteering and serving 30 years with the US army.

He had a bunch of memorbilia.

That was beautiful but a little too sad for me.  I suppose it's because of my husband's ill health and the fact that I'm old myself and do get lonesome.  I went to visit him today but I couldn't reach him yesterday to see if he needed to add to his shopping list.  He sent me out to stores three times and that's on top of the two stores yesterday and early today.  Bless his heart he just kept thinking of things including one item I couldn't find....a sleeping mask.  I hardly ever see those.

My husband's good friend loaned our daughter and I some old guns to try out at the range when she was about to become a cop.  I think I tried to shoot a Luger and it malfunctioned.  It scared me to death.  We didn't try any of the friend's older old guns after that.

I'm married and live with my wife, but she has what she wants to talk about and I have what I want to talk about, and the intersection of the two too often ends up without any real communication.

I think a lot of us are like that.  My hubby and I care a lot and have been together more than fifty years but it's the same for us.

Hard for me because I have a difficult time talking to people at all, and with COVID, I get even less of a chance

I think I have seen one, but not fired. On TV, yes, the top folds instead of sliding.

But I did get to hold an 1890's Colt revolver ("It's worth $25,000. Would you like to hold it" - my wife's gun expert. Note the rule was NO PICTURES)

I will say the gun expert would never have let me handle the guns had I not learned stuff I learned from the people here. I was very careful never to have the muzzle pointed 1within 180 degrees of anyone. Careful to make sure they were unloaded (they were, but there was plenty of ammo around)

And good night. Maybe tonight the dogs will catch the chipmunks I prevented them from catching in dreams last night

I have nothing against chipmunks unless they try to sing
