I need a long weekend away from my long weekend. It’s certainly very enriching to spend this kind of time with little guy, but my God, I am exhausted.

In #1 Occasional Reader said: but my God, I am exhausted In #4 Kosh's Shadow said: You spend your time worrying about where the kid is going That is certainly true. My "kid" is turning forty this December and I still worry about him. I meant about the exhausted part. That's my standard line around home these days. Whenever anybody is having an age related problem my comeback is always "but I'm sure it gets better". People seldom laugh when I say it, I don't know why. I don't think they believe me.

Last camping trip I was helping my son unload gear from the back of his truck. He went to jump out of the truck bed when we finished, then stopped himself. His knee had been bothering him lately so he crawled out. I told him "don't worry, it gets better as you get older." He appreciates my sense of humor and laughed. What was I supposed to do? Tell him it's only going to get worse. I don't think he wanted to hear that!

Reply to Alice in Dairyland in 8: Both my wife and I have had joint pain - then she read that potatoes are bad for it. We stopped eating potatoes, or at least cut way down, and the pain has largely gone away. I am prone to gout and psoriatic arthritis, so have a prescription for Indicin - haven't taken it since we cut down on potatoes.

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 10: My husband also has issues with arthritis. VA doc told him to avoid sugar, it aggravates joint pain. I wonder if it's the carbs or starch?

Potatoes and tomatoes are in the nightshade family. Most MDs don't know about some of the natural nutrition information. We are blessed with a doctor from Texas who understands religion and accepts it, Not that the nutritional stuff is religion, but there is more to our beliefs.

My sister just informed me that one of the Loudoun County school-board members has resigned, in the face of a recall effort that had garnered sufficient signatures to have the board-member be removed. More, the people pushing the recall were able to ensure that the county prosecutor---who is sympathetic to the board member targeted by the recall, and would normally be the person to pursue the recall---would NOT be the functionary to press it. Hence the board member's decision to resign rather than fight the recall effort. One wonders whether this local success in Northern Virginia is a bellweather as regards the upcoming gubernatorial election in Virginia.

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 16: I hope it does indicate some real accountability. The school board members that hid sexual assaults should be charged as accessories after the fact.
