I don't know if anyone saw my post on Saturday on how Brookline, MA is banning fossil fuel heating in new construction or major renovation, to cut down on CO2 emissions. It will have the opposite effect. Burning gas to make electricity is 45% efficient; gas furnaces are at least 90%. That means twice the fuel needs to be burned. Depending on the source, New England gets 70-84% of its electricity from fossil fuels. So, at 70%, this will result in a 40% increase in CO2 emissions compared with just using furnaces. But they feel good and have signaled their virtue (and stupidity)

Oh, for crying out loud. A former classmate of mine, Greg Palast, has been hired by Stacey Abrams to prove that her non-election was "stolen"---and Palast is talking about taking his "investigative reporting" to a number of battleground/swing states next year.

Ilhan Omar - a Qatari agent? (JPost link) Ilhan Omar was recruited by a foreign government, received funding from a
foreign government, and passed sensitive information through
intermediates to Iran, a Florida court has been told. The
claims came during testimony by Kuwati-born Canadian businessman Alan
Bender, who was giving evidence in the trial of Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad
al-Thani. Speaking from Toronto by video link, Bender told the Florida District
Court that he met with Qatar’s Secretary to the Emir for Security
Affairs Mohammad bin Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Masnad and two other senior
Qatari officials. According to his sworn deposition, the three officials told him: “If it wasn't for our cash, Ilhan Omar would be just another black Somali refugee in America collecting welfare and serving tables on weekends." Omar was said to also have passed information to Qatar which was
subsequently handed along to Iran, and was actively involved in
recruiting other American politicians to likewise work for Qatar, Bender
testified. Why do I think the US MSM won't pick up on this?

What crimes?
We have to find them! The crime of defeating Hillary Clinton, who was supposed to be the first woman president! He stole the election! It was hers - she was handed the sword by the ladies of the MSM, signifying by divine providence, she was to be our king queen.

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 17: The math of thermodynamics. I took a course "The Statistical Development of Classical Thermodynamics", which derived the classical equations of thermodynamics from statistics - macrostates and microstates of systems. I did very well in the course. The textbook was by the professor, and not published; held together by a metal clip of sorts. The picture of Boltzmann's grave was a sketch, not a picture. His epitath - s=k ln w the equation of entropy But I learned a lot.

I took a Statistical Thermodynamics. Prof was lazy, entire grade was on the mid-term and final. 2 questions on each. You know how complex they can be. Learned a lot also.

Reply to JCM in 19: WPI had 2 passing grades. Acceptable, and Acceptable with Distinction. The better one was equivalent to an A. Doing well on the final gave the latter grade. I got it - by having a lot of understanding come to me late during the final. I do remember the group project showing how a jet engine uses the Carnot cycle. But I never understood why a condenser was important in a steam engine until I read some books about ocean liners, and noticed they described the condensers by how much vacuum they produced. The vacuum at the exhaust improves the efficiency. You can transfer heat before the condenser, but the condenser needs to be there.
