For an unrelated followup on today's Saki recommendations, here's a rendition of "Nagasaki."

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 1: I won't ask you to send Saki to me (anyone remember the old Laugh In sketches?)
I do remember enjoying Saki, years ago.

Number 2 son and I were watching Blade Runner tonight, and for the first time (and I've watched it many times) I was struck by the similarities to The Big Sleep. It's not the same story, of course, but there are aspects of the story and much of the visual story telling that is similar. Three things that hit me right off: the constant rain, the "Asian" subtext, the fact that the Shamus is constantly being deceived by his supposed "employers." The bit with Deckard talking to the first "skin job" he retires in her dressing room reminded me, in an odd way, of the scene when Marlowe goes into the antique book store which is really a front for the pornographers. I need to watch The Big Sleep again and think about this more. The parallels go beyond the obvious noir/neo-noir connection.
