Spent an absurd amount of time today on a dinner that was a screaming to the high heavens disappointment.

I cooked a ribeye steak for my apparently very carnivorous little boy, and it turned out reasonably well.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 4: Youngest boy is a big steak lover, which is ironic given that his mother is a vegetarian. She now makes them meat ... mainly because she cooks meat for her fuck buddy. Of course when she was married to me she wouldn't allow meat in the house. I wonder what he's got that I don't. Maybe he can part his hair with his tongue?

Reply to Occasional Reader in 6: I had a long lunch with a former colleague the other day. One of the two who has made any effort to keep up with me. I gave nearly 30 years to an institution to know that all the effort, all the sacrifices, meant nothing. I used to comfort myself by thinking that I made a difference, but obviously not. I was a member of a church for over 20 years and all I've gotten from them is being told that my problems don't matter, or at least that no one really cares. I gave 20 years to a marriage only to realize that no matter how hard I tried it didn't matter. She demanded of me things she wouldn't ask of her current partner, so why did I even try? I've come to the conclusion that I must be the biggest jerk whose ever lived. Whatever has happened is my just deserts for being a worthless piece of shit.

Reply to lucius septimius in 8: It sounds like you gave to your job, you gave to your church, you gave to your marriage, you gave to your family and I'm sure you gave to many others. Seems you forgot about the most important thing in your life...you. I'll say to you what I told my son as a child - it doesn't matter what other people think about you, what matters is how you think about yourself. If you did your best (and it sounds like you did), that alone should make you proud. I think you've had a very productive life and hardly see you as being worthless. Sounds like quite a few people have benefitted from how you have lived your life.

When I was in high school, we'd go to the (now burnt down) Orson Welles Cinema in Cambridge to watch Marx Brothers movies. I still think we should declare Freedonian Street a Groucho Marxist enclave.

Not just Marx Brothers, but other old movies, like the Big Broadcast of 193?. This is why I can relate to Buzz' movie tast (I had the car - my parents didn't have drivers licenses, so relatives that drove them shopping gave them/me a car in return for my taking them shopping. A teenager's dream. Too bad I didn't know girls to use the back seat of the 1967 Chevy Nova.

So far, no one noted the town where Freedonian St. is located, or hasn't given the obvious joke.
