Relatively clear skies here in DC. I am hoping to see the comet tonight.

And I think this time, the comet does bring bad portents. Riots in the US, shit blowing up in Iran.... And we are close to the most mournful days in the Jewish calendar, climaxing on July 30, Tisha b'Av, the day both Temples were destroyed - yet the day the Moshiach (messiah) will come - may he come speedily, this year.

I’ve got the big dipper located, but I still can’t see anything looking like a comma. I think there still a little too much light in the sky, and a little bit of cloudiness.

I rather like that part, actually. I'm waiting for the mushroom cloud over their nuclear program.

Nope, no comet tonight. Which leads me to the conclusion that comets are racist.
/remember the racist solar eclipse?

It appears that the Robin DiAngelo book "White Fragility" that John McWhorter took apart---his fisking in the Atlantic appeared here a day or two ago---is a major national bestseller. Terrifying. I note, too, that OR's pal Michael Eric Dyson did the introduction.

Terrif. those selections I have other books to buy, including Ghost in the Wires, by the hacker Kevin Mitnick. (since I had systems that I was in charge of where xxx security need to make sure he hadn't broken in to. Turned out it was a contractor who left behind a login he could use.)
