Just for shíites and giggles, I test drove a “cyberbeast“ model cybertruck today, including in full self driving mode. Having just bought a new car,, I’m not exactly in the market for it, but the technology is damn impressive. Getting back into my own 2025 model year car, I felt like I was getting into a museum piece in comparison.

I had wondered before going in whether the Tesla showroom would be an armed camp. But no, it looked pretty normal. The sales guy did tell me they had experienced some stupidity from the people participating in the extended three minutes hate, however.

Me, I think technology has its place but it is way overused in modern "cars".

If I ran the NHTSA, all controls neede while driving would have to be operatable by feel, not on touchscreen.

And I would trust a self-flying airplane more than a self-driving car. The ground environment is too complicated.

And this has nothing to do with me being rejected by a robotocs company that was working on systems that could be used for self driving.

And as I age, I certainly see the upcoming value of full self drive capability, to allow one to reain more autonomous into later in life.

As it was, the self driving was pretty impressive; including pulling us into a tightly, packed parking lot, successfully, avoiding a car that pulled out of a parking space with no warning, and then backing us into a tight parking space.. And the sales guy was demonstrating pretty effectively how much could be done via voice control rather than touchscreen.

OK and speaking of the limits of technology I’m too lazy to erase the duplication that Apple‘s increasingly terrible voice to text did here.

never mind, the duplication disappeared at the very last second. So, a good day for Apple.

The tech is amazing. Although the reliance on cameras for self driving modes and not including radar or lidar leaves some holes for corner case situations, IMAO. I still am skeptical of "self driving" but that is likely the Luddite in me speaking.

Apple has definitely slipped lately.
