FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) to clean up the issue of commercial drivers. Driver facing 17th deportation moments after release from jail for deadly Colorado crash 47-year-old Ignacio Cruz-Mendoza served one year in jail for a June 2024 crash on Highway 285 outside of Conifer, Colorado that left one person dead. Cruz-Mendoza was hauling metal pipes at the time of the crash. He served one year in jail for four misdemeanor charges: one count of careless driving resulting in death, and three counts of careless driving resulting in injury. Cruz-Mendoza was released at about 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 30th, where he was immediately detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Denver 7 reports that he was in the country illegally at the time of the crash, and had been removed from the country 12 times prior to the wreck. He has also voluntarily left the United States and returned to Mexico four times, all since 2002. How the hell are illegals getting CDLs?

In #10 JCM said: How the hell are illegals getting CDLs? To be honest? I have to think that is happening under the table. I'm having a hard time imagining an illegal at the DMV getting a license when he can't show proof of birth in the US or a green card.

Reply to vxbush in 11: Quick check 17 states issue a drivers' license to illegals. Most of those have motor voter. CDL is Federally regulated for interstate drivers. Intrastate driving is less so, and there are farm exemptions. There are requirements for classes, testing, road test etc... one requirement is proficiency in english. Under the table or blue states being blue states and when someone shows up "just off the boat" they hand out a CDL no questions.
