Reply to Occasional Reader in 2: People at the top level get pretty casual about classification. Not that it's an excuse but I'm willing to bet just about anyone at those levels you could find classified material. It another level to shove classified docs into your socks to help with a coverup.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 2: Might be due to classified material in Bolton's book. The Biden administration dropped the investigation. I gave a link - but the link gives my "real name shared it with you"

Reply to JCM in 6: Insh'allah (sp?) I read a book by someone who was a USAF attache to a Turkish Air Force base. He saw a Turkish fighter aircraft about to take off, and saw it was damaged - would crash. He told them, and their reply was just what I said above. It crashed.

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 7: Totally believable. When I was living in Iran we met some Boeing instructor pilots. They told us this story. There were training Iranians on Iran Air's brand new 747s. They were on a flight when there was an emergency. Serious but manageable. The Iranians pilot's response was "Inshallah" and not do anything. The Boeing pilots prevailed and got the issue resolved.
Churchill in The River War, "Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy." Inshallah, results in an apathic outlook, which you see across many aspects of the culture. From how they drive, to the relationships with government. The situation they are in is "Inshallah" god's will, why should we fight god's will?
