Still images of the engine detaching from the wing.
Still images from an airport surveillance video showing the left engine and left pylon separation from the left wing. (
After initial cleaning of the fracture surfaces, examination of the left pylon aft mount lug
fractures found evidence of fatigue cracks in addition to areas of overstress failure. On the aft
lug, on both the inboard and outboard fracture surfaces, a fatigue crack was observed where
the aft lug bore met the aft lug forward face.

yikes

So there’s another reason why I always feel nervous when I board a commercial aircraft and noticed that it is visibly aged.

Few airliners that old are still in passenger service, and the design had its problems (MD-11 is really a version of the DC-10; if it were Boeing it would be another -, like the 737-800 or 737-MAX)

And there was IIRC 2 other cases of engines coming off DC-10's; one after it was high enough to recover and get back to the ground without much control - no hydraulics.

When  was the last time any of your other iPhone users recall doing a major software update, and then afterwards feeling like, “wow! Everything works so much better now! “?

Because that’s certainly not what happened to me yesterday.

And another fun thing I noticed when I was on an airplane flight last week, is that about half my supposedly downloaded library is not available unless I have a data signal. That has never been the case before. I spent about a quarter hour online with some Indian teenager, who could not figure out what the problem was. Eventually I’ll have to stop in to an Apple Store with an appointment. Incredibly frustrating

I haven't felt that way for a while. A lot of the "upgrades" lately have been cosmetic or really just such small improvements that they don't merit being counted as a major version increment. The fixation on the "Liquid Glass" look versus actual, you know, improvements as opposed to cosmetic changes tells me a lot about what Apple is doing these days. They are treading water and not innovating. At least, I haven't seem much in terms of feature improvements that make my life easier.

Their promised improvements to Apple Intelligence has been true vaporware. The idea sounded grand. The lack of any product is highly troubling.

Not sure about iPhones but I know Kindle on Android will delete files that haven't been used for a while, to keep space down.

I suggest opening anything you want to read shortly before going somewhere with no signal.

Caligula famously said, "Would that the people of Rome had just one neck" (which he could, of course, then chop).

The more we rely on these few companies for...everything...the more that "one neck" is being bared for the wielder of the axe.

Sorry, there was a dropped word in my earlier post, due to sucktastic voice to text.

Possibly the same problem, that the app tries to minimize space used on the device.

On this day in history...  Windows 1.0 was first released 40 years ago today.  Oh yeah, and it's Joe Biden's birthday too. Make of that what you will.
