Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 1: They are still deciding whether to orbit or not. Orbit is falling to the ground and missing - when you would have hit the ground, you are (in a circular orbit) the same distance away from the ground because of your speed. And a note about watching the first launch in the Frontier.

I remember watching space launches on TV way back in grade school. They left me cold even then. The moonwalk occurred while I was a summer institute at Northwestern, and everyone in the dorm gathered in the lounge to watch "a small step for a man, a giant leap for mankind." While it certainly was, even then I was never really into the whole thing.

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 6: I always was int space. Grade school had one TV that they would alternate rooms. (No auditorium or cafeteria -wooden desks with iron legs bolted to the floor; large windows you needed a pole to operate) Got to borrow a TV in my befroom to watch the first man on the Moon.

Space programs/travel, and team sports are two things that I've never really acquired an interest in. That's OK---I've had fun getting into other things---but it has often been evident that my lack of interest in them has caused me to miss opportunities to bond with my fellow man.

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 8: Sports are one place I have little interest. But in school in Boston, I had to know how Boston teams were doing. To me, sports are a frivolous activity, while space operations help humanity. And I have one suggestion of how space vehicles could help, but I hid it in the Frontier
